Just a short journey of 30 kilometers from the bustling city of Tbilisi, Marabda Lake unveils itself in the Tetritskaro municipality. Crafted by human hands, this artificial reservoir stands at an elevation of 700 meters, or approximately 2,297 feet, above sea level. Spanning a modest area of 0.23 square meters (2.47 square feet), it serves as a tranquil escape for those seeking the solace of nature and the gentle tug of a fish on their line.

Eastern Georgia, where Marabda Lake is situated, grapples with a notable scarcity of water. This is largely attributed to its less humid climate, especially when compared to the country's western regions. Consequently, the creation and maintenance of reservoirs in this part of Georgia predominantly aim to address irrigation needs. Marabda Lake plays a pivotal role in this, ensuring that the arid lands receive the nourishment they require.

Despite its primary function as an irrigation source, the lake has not gone unnoticed by the local fishing community. Anglers, both seasoned and novices, find themselves drawn to its waters, armed with an assortment of fishing rods, spinners, and nets. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including Crucian carps (Carassius), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), Luciobarbus mursa, Rutilus (Rutilus), and Alburnus (Alburnus alburnus). Many of these fishing enthusiasts adhere to a 'catch and release' philosophy, ensuring the aquatic life continues to thrive and is preserved for future generations.

For those who prefer a tangible reward for their efforts, the lake is accommodating. Visitors are welcome to take their catch with them or even prepare it there and then, with a campfire providing both warmth and a means to cook their freshly caught fish. In addition to its abundant fish population, the lake is also lauded for its accessibility. Regardless of your mode of transportation, reaching Marabda Lake is straightforward, ensuring that its serene waters and potential for adventure are available to all.

In essence, Marabda Lake, with its blend of practicality and natural allure, stands as a cherished spot within eastern Georgia. Whether it’s the irrigation it provides, the fish that call it home, or the quietude it offers to those with a fishing rod in hand, it plays a multifaceted role in enriching the region.
